"But many who heard the message believed."
(Acts 4:4)

The Calhoun County Jail Ministry meets every Thursday night at the jail from 6:45-8pm.

In the jail there are twelve cellblocks sections (which contain about 20 cells) with anywhere from 15 to 30 inmates to a cellblock. The sections range from minor crimes to state and federal inmates. The Jail Ministry also ministers to one section for ladies, which usually holds about 20 to 30 ladies; and to section of lock down inmates.

Each minister stays in one section for one month then rotates. This gives the inmates a fresh new voice as well as keeping the minister from growing too attached to an inmate. The ministers are to follow God's leadership in what they speak on each night but are asked to keep it simple. The ministers stick to the gospel, how to grow as a new Christian, how to resist temptation, etc.

The Jail Ministry has different denominations involved in this ministry. Although everyone doesn't agree on all points, we do all agree on the good news of Christ and what it takes to accept Jesus.

New ministers for the first month go in with a veteran minister and are asked to only observe during that time. After that time they are allowed to enter alone if they wish.

Over the past five years hundreds of inmates have accepted Christ and usually 65 to 75 baptisms occur each year. When one truly accepts Christ, it has been well worth the time.
